Lots of space to play while on the road
One of the many advantages of a motorhome when compared to a car is the space to play, to draw, to puzzle, to build and to eat.
The table of the dinette is the center piece of that luxury. On the table of our motorhome we had hundreds of drawings made, many wars fought, a few marriages sealed, races won and lost, strange fruits dissected, quarrels fought and made up again, insects analyzed and it was slept and eaten on. And all of that while on the road, in seat belts, while mum and dad were discussing matters of universal importance, oblivious of the events taking place right behind them.Tip: If you are bringing along tablets and phones for the kids then considere bringing headphones as well to avoid cacaphony; it's better for the parents' mood and mental well being.
Kids can sleep anytime anywhere
All motorhomes have at least one two person bed available anytime someone wants or needs to sleep. Do keep in mind that while driving all passengers should be in seat belts.
Pitstops are never a problem
Children are unpredictable and that's the way they should be. Hunger always pops up at unconvenient times, the same goes for having to to pee or poopoo and throwing up can never be planned either. The toilet and bathroom are right next to you, the kitchen is right behind you so warming up the milk will take you 2 seconds. Make sure you have paper towel or wetties handy and you are all set for the inevitable emergency.
Flexibility
So there you find yourself having planned a long visit to that one campsite that the kids will love and then you find out you were wrong; it's all worn out and run down, the pool's closed or the weather's really bad. No worries! Pack your stuff and Move on! That's the whole idea behind motorhoming; stay where you like it and leave if you don't. Kids are making really good friends unexpectedly? So stay!. Are they enjoying the bike rides much more that you expected and are you in the middle of a fine riding area? Stay for another ride tomorrow! Booking in advance for any camping is something we really never do unless it's strictly necessary and we find that our clients seldom do also. So level out on a day to day basis between what you would like to do and what your children seem to enjoy doing and you are garanteed they'll love it. Keep things flexible is the motto.
Comfort
Whith just the two of you a bit of rough travelling is OK. But with children around it's a different story. Comfort and luxury become important and that's exactly what motorhomes are: comfortable and luxurious. The are well insulated against both heat and cold. There's heating if needed and the high end models have airco in the living space. All models have airco in the cabin plus running water, warm and cold, WC and a shower. Also good matresses with fine bedding. And don't forget that all windows have both shades and mosquito nets. So when things get hot you can always open them without the bugs coming in, important for children. The awning provides shadow when sitting outside. And so the list continues. So in fact motorhoming is a bit like glamping and very cosy on top of that. Oh, don't forget the radio, quite an important item for those who are not too good at singing.
Varied
Motorhomes were practically designed for all varieties of holidays as they go practically anywhere. So they are garanteed to get your childers the most varied holidays ever. Kitesurf school in Tarifa? Check! Biking over ex railway tracks, the famous Vias Verdes? Sure! A few days at the beach? Yep. Entertainment parks? As many as you wish. Rustic campsite with grazing cows! Also. Theme parks and museums for kids? We have many of them and google will find them all. Far out, fully fledged campsites? Check out La Marina Camping and Resort just to name one. Go skiing with your children? Sierra Nevada. To make a long story short, the odds are against you to come up with a place that you wouldn't be able to get to with a motorhome. So it doesn't get any more varied that this.
Safety
Now that we have children the word safety takes on a new meaning as well. And then it's good to know that motorhomes are one of the safest means to travel. Even though most depends on the driver, the statistics show that motorhomes are a lot safer than cars. In the US the number of fatalities per vehicle mile are three times lower for motorhomes than for cars. That is obviously mostly caused by the fact that speed is inherently much lower. Not something that you should be thinking about all the time whlie on holidays bit it is a reassuring thought. Do keep the rules in mind. Children under a certain age have to go in a car seat.
Mobile playhouse
By now we know by experience; children love the mobile playhouses that motorhomes really are. Especially the A-class motorhomes are favourite. They have a two person berth up in front that is a bit like a treehouse back home. You even need a little ladder to get into it. The bed is mostly turned into a play corner in no time. Appoint your youngest as the electric doorstep operator and your oldest as the awning king. To spice things up remember to bring stuff from home that you know will keep them busy and entertained. Drawing and colouring books are an all-time favourite and you'll probably have to bring the inevitable tablet or phone. Think about family board games. Don't forget outdoor stuff like a kite, inflatables for the beach and pool and maybe a travel size hammock.
You shall have fun!
